Batts
A slab of insulation. A term commonly used throughout the industry for home insulation. Pink Batts are generally 1160mm long and either 430 or 580mm wide.
Pink Batts® keep you cool by acting as a barrier from the extreme heat of our Australian summers. The inside temperature of your home can be up to 8ºC to 12ºC cooler than an un-insulated or poorly insulated home. Pink Batts® keep you warm becasue they act as a barrier against heat loss. They work just as effectively in winter as they do in summer. Your home will be warmer or cooler, more efficient to heat and much more comfortable to live in.
Pink Batts®
Pink Batts can be installed into ceilings of existing homes to improve comfort and energy efficiency. If you are building a new home or extension, then coupling Pink Batts with good design for orientation, window size and type, shading, ventilation and the selection of materials could eliminate the need for air conditioning altogether.
Pink Batts® control the flow of heat
Heat flow or heat transfer occurs in three different ways:
Conduction: When materials of different remperatures come into contact, for example when a metal spoon is placed in hot water, heat is transferred to the spoon and up the handle. Because Pink Batts contain air pockets which are poor conductors, by installing Pink Batts, heat transfer is reduced.
Radiation: Invisible heat rays from the sun warm objects on earth. Lighter coloured roofing materials help reflect this radiated heat, but dark coloured roofing tends to absorb the heat. Once inside the roof space, the heat. Once inside the rood space, the heat entering rooms below will be reduced with Pink Batts.
Convection: When warm air rises, it is called convective heat flow. To reduce this, the warm air must be held still, which is best done by trapping the air in small pockets. Pink Batts installed in walls and ceilings effectively traps the air because the air pockets in the batts prevent the heat escaping.
Pink Batts® help you save
An average home correctly insulated not only saves on energy, but also reduces greenhouse has emissions. Pink Batts can reduce your heating and cooling costs by up to 40%. Pink Batts will pay for themselves in as little as 3-4 years and then provide saving for the life of your home.
What is an R-value?
An R-value is the level of thermal resistance as tested in a laboratory. This thermal resistance depends on the number of air pockets in the insulation. Because air is a poor conductor of heat, the more air pockets the better. The higher the R-value, the more efficient the insulation.
